“Defense Diplomacy through Education and Research:

Building Confidence, Enhancing Engagement”

As part of the Philippine chairmanship of ASEAN, the National Defense College of the Philippines hosted the 21st ASEAN Regional Forum Heads of Defense Universities/Colleges/Institutions Meeting (ARF HDUCIM) on the 17-21 September 2017 at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, Philippines. The meeting’s co-chair was the National Institute for Defense Studies of Japan.
With the theme “Defense Diplomacy through Education and Research: Building Confidence, Enhancing Engagement,” the meeting discussed the following:
  1. Evolving Regional Security Landscape of the Asia Pacific
  2. Education and Research as Components of Defense Diplomacy
  3. Building Confidence and Enhancing Engagement: Avenues for Cooperation among DUCIs
The participants in the ARF HDUCIM are as follows: Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Canada, China, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, European Union, India, Indonesia, Japan, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Russia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor-Leste, United States, and Viet Nam.
