The National Defense College of the Philippines (NDCP), in partnership with the Department of National Defense (DND), organized a DND-wide event entitled “Women Inspiring Women Forum”.

Patterned after the same forum series of the Philippine Commission on Women in celebration of the National Women’s Month, the DND-NDCP forum was held on 24 March 2017 at the NDCP Honor Hall.

DND Director Christine June P Cariño MNSA said, “With this year’s theme of ‘We Make Change Work for Women’, the ‘Women Inspiring Women Forum’ aims to celebrate women’s journey by sharing inspiring stories of change in their chosen fields within the defense sector, encourage their fellow women to be empowered agents of change, and create an environment supportive of each other.”

The forum speakers were Lt Col Maria Victoria Blancaflor-Agoncillo, Chief of the Philippine Army Gender and Development Office; Director Josefina T Timoteo of the Recovery and Rehabilitation Management Service of the Office of Civil Defense; Dr Teresita Cardenas, Chief of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) and Ms Eleanor C Prado of the Philippine Association of Soldiers, Widows, Parents and Orphans (PASWPO).

In his remarks, NDCP President Rear Admiral (Ret) Roberto Q Estioko PhD MNSA said, “The Philippine government puts premium in participatory governance, and part of this initiative is ensuring that the voice of women is heard in the government’s call for cooperation among various sectors to promote genuine change”.

He said further, “The Philippine Government recognizes the capacity of women to empower themselves through their active participation in governance”.

Forum was attended by 130 representatives from the DND and its bureaus.

The forum also serves as the concluding event in the series of activities that the NDCP’s Gender and Development (GAD) team organized in celebration of the 2017 National Women’s Month.
