The National Defense College of the Philippines (NDCP) and the AFP Office for Strategic Studies and Strategy Management (OSSSM) co-hosted the Track II Network of ASEAN Defence and Security Institutions (NADI) Workshop from 5 to 8 November 2019.
With the theme “Strengthening Defense Diplomacy: Challenges and Prospects of ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM)”, the workshop brought together 29 representatives from 11 institutions from 9 Southeast Asian countries.
The workshop was held at the Quest Plus Conference Center, Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga.
NADI is a platform for dialogue among think tanks and academic institutions in Southeast Asia specializing on defense and security, with the goal of formulating recommendations for the ADMM. Participants of NADI activities present their views on current and emerging issues in their own personal capacity in order to promote an atmosphere of free conversation and academic freedom.
NDCP Executive Vice President, Director Rolando G Jungco, and OSSSM Chief, Brigadier General Ignacio B Madriaga AFP, co-chaired the workshop.
The workshop focused on the norms and principles for defense and security cooperation, areas of cooperation in the ADMM, and mechanisms for ASEAN defense diplomacy.
To cap the workshop, participants visited Mt Samat National Shrine in Bataan.
Participation in NADI is part of NDCP’s mandate and international defense and security engagements (IDSE), as mandated by the Department of National Defense.
