The Department of National Defense (DND)
was formerly organized on November 1, 1939, pursuant to Executive
Order No. 230, to implement the National Defense Act (Commonwealth
Act No. 1) passed by the National Assembly on December 31,1935
and Commonwealth Act No. 340 creating the Department. It is
tasked with the responsibility of providing the necessary
protection of the State against external and internal threats;
directing, planning and supervising the National Defense Program;
maintaining law and order throughout the country; and performing
