NDCP Garners VMMC “Gaward Pagkilala” Award

The National Defense College of the Philippines was chosen as one of the recipients of the Veterans Memorial Medical Center’s Gawad Pagkilala Award for the year 2008. This award is conferred by the Operation Lifeline-VMMC to a person or institution who has given significant support to the voluntary blood donation program of the said medical center.
The VMMC has been conducting Operation Lifeline since 1988. NDCP was recognized for its bloodletting project dubbed as “Alay-Buhay sa Dalubhasaan” which is being conducted yearly during the College’s foundation anniversary celebrations since 2003 where VMMC has always been one of its main beneficiaries.
In a formal awarding and recognition ceremonies commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the Operation Lifeline and the 53rd Founding Anniversary of the Veterans Memorial Center held on 17 November 2008 at the VMMC’s Basilio Valdes Hall, NDCP President Commodore Carlos L Agustin AFP (Ret) received the award on behalf of the College.
Relatedly, it was Commodore Agustin himself who initiated the first bloodletting activity in 2003 which has since then became a yearly tradition at NDCP in connection with its anniversary week celebration. Commo Agustin, who is a PNRC Galloner, usually spearheads such bloodletting in the College.
Additionally “Galloners” awards were presented to 37 blood donors who had donated one gallon of blood. The other awardees were: Gilas-Tugon Sakoro Award - Maritime Academy of Asia & the Pacific, and Vice Adm Eduardo Ma R Santos, AFP (Ret), President, Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific; Gawad Papuri – Manila Health Department, Police Community Relations Group and TERUMO Marketing Philippines, Inc.; Gawad Pagkakilala – Naval Education Training Command, Intelligence Service, Armed Forces of the Philippines Reserve Command, SM Mall of Asia, Human Resources Department, Philippine Science High School, American Legion Auxillary and Philippine Department; and Bronze Award to Mario D Capinpin.(Romy de Vera) |
