PEACE SUPPORT OPERATIONS SEMINAR

The National Defense College of the Philippines (NDCP) through the Institute for Extramural and Continuing Studies (IECS) will conduct the PEACE SUPPORT OPERATIONS SEMINAR on May 9-12, 2006 at the NDCP Honor Hall, Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.


The seminar is a four-day course which aims to examine and assess current processes and systems in constituting Philippine contingents for deployment to foreign UN missions, to study the best practices of other countries, to formulate a policy that can be the basis of an operational plan of concerned departments/agencies, and to formulate an improved inter-agency system that will incorporate and consider careful planning, resource management, timely response and sound decision-making policies in constituting Philippine contingents for deployment to foreign UN missions. Course of instruction will be a combination of lectures, discussions and workshops. It shall accommodate a maximum of thirty participants.


INTENDED OUTPUTS After four days, it is expected that the participants will be able to recognize the strengths and weaknesses of the current systems and be able to recommend improvements on the current system that will constitute an Inter-agency framework for United Nations deployments that will serve as a basic outline for a policy paper.


QUALIFICATIONS AND NOMINATIONS Nominee/s must be official representatives of government agencies who are action officers, key planners, policy-makers, decision-makers or those being groomed for such responsibilities related to peace support operations. They are preferably those with direct involvement in facilitating UN requests and requirements for peacekeeping missions and similar responsibilities. They must also have basic knowledge of peace support operation matters or have had exposure in any specific peacekeeping mission.


Nominees should strictly meet the qualifications specified above in order to be accepted in the seminar. Nominations duly certified by the respective heads of agencies or offices shall be accepted for screening and selection. Successful nominees shall be formally informed of their acceptance into the program. The deadline for submission of the nomination form is on APRIL 28, 2006. Admission is highly competitive. Limited slots are available. The College reserves the right to refuse admission.
