The two-day activity is designed to augment the capability of specialized responders in the field of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Terrorist Incident Response. The training program is aimed at first responders such as bomb technicians, forensic technicians, fire hazardous materials experts, and paramedics.
The development of this training program is a result of the needs assessment and knowledge transfer training mission conducted here by the Defense Research and Development Canada (DRDC) in March 2005 and the International First Responder Training Program in January 2006. Experts from the DRDC/Counter-Terrorism Technology Centre (CTTC) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) will conduct the training, which is supported by CIDA of Canada.
Marcy Borromeo, Acting Director of EMIP reported to the NDCP President, retired PN Commodore Carlos L Agustin that 100 expected participants are expected from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine National Police, the Bureau of Fire Protection, the National Bureau of Investigation, the Philippine Coast Guard, Department of Health, Office of Civil Defense, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Philippine Nuclear Research Institute, UP-Philippine General Hospital, and Department of Agriculture.
