As part of its foreign academic tour, the 35-member delegation of the Brunei Armed Forces Command and Staff College visited the National Defense College of the Philippines (NDCP) on 27 June 2018.

The Brunei delegation was led by its Deputy Commandant LtCol Dayang Suryati Binti Hji Junaidi.

NDCP officials and students engaged the delegates in a candid and comprehensive discussion on issues of development and security. Among the topics covered during the open interaction include the National Security Policy, Marawi siege, geostrategic environment in the Asia-Pacific, cybersecurity, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), welfare of the overseas Filipino workers, poverty, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and the war on drugs.

In his remarks, the NDCP Executive Vice President, Director Rolando G Jungco, noted the robust bilateral relations between the Philippines and Brunei Darussalam, as well as various multilateral platforms of which both countries are members. He also underscored the key role that Brunei, as a member of the International Monitoring Team, has played in the peace process between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

In line with its mandate on international defense and security engagement, NDCP engages visiting academic institutions such as Brunei Armed Forces Command and Staff College in order to promote people-to-people understanding, explore avenues for future academic cooperation, and contribute in enhancing diplomatic relations.
