The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Republic of the Philippines, His Excellency Agus Widjojo, lectured at the National Defense College of the Philippines (NDCP) entitled “Historical Memory and Asia’s Regional Peace and Security” for the Master in National Security Administration Regular Class 58 on 1 February 2023. Ambassador Widjojo also paid a courtesy call to the NDCP President, LtGen Ferdinand M Cartujano PAF (Ret).
The panel lecture centered on the role of historical or collective memory in shaping national identity and advancing national interests, as well as the ways countries conduct and manage alliances and partnerships. It also emphasized the importance of military cooperation, functional cooperation, and defense diplomacy in forging regional peace and security in the global south.
Ambassador Widjojo gave the keynote lecture together with his co-panelist, Professor Dr Ricardo T Jose of the Department of History, University of the Philippines Diliman. The activity is part of the MNSA Program’s Module on NSA 204-B (Area Security Studies) and the Ambassador Speaks Series of the Academic Affairs Division.
