In line with its commitment to pursue gender and development (GAD) in the workplace, the National Defense College of the Philippines (NDCP) conducted a training for its personnel entitled “Basic GAD Concepts and Issues” on 31 August 2021 via Cisco Webex.
The training aimed not only to introduce basic concepts on GAD and tackle relevant issues in the Philippines but also deepen the personnel’s understanding of GAD’s application in their respective lines of work in the College.
Prof Jocelyn D Tuscano of Cagayan State University provided a comprehensive discussion on topics such as basic GAD concepts and gender issues, gender sensitivity and gender equality, gender mainstreaming, gender needs, and the vision of a gender fair society.
Further, Prof Tuscano stressed the importance of integrating GAD concerns in all NDCP processes for the institution to continue to be gender-responsive and sensitive to the needs of its internal and external stakeholders.
In his closing remarks, Director Aldrin C Cuña MNSA, Executive Vice President and Chairperson of NDCP’s GAD Focal Point System (GFPS), encouraged the personnel to work together towards the fulfillment of the GAD goals of the College.
The training is the first part of the NDCP GAD Training Series planned for the rest of the year.
