The Philippine Center of Excellence in Defense, Development, and Security (PCEDS) of the National Defense College of the Philippines (NDCP) hosted a roundtable discussion on 6 July 2023 with the U.K. Ministry of Defense (MOD) to delve into topics concerning maritime security issues in the Indo-Pacific Region. The U.K. delegation is composed of British Ambassador to the Philippines Laure Beaufils; Mr Nick Gurr, the Director General for International Security; Gp Capt Bea Walcot; and Ms Alex Armson.
The roundtable discussion was in line with the latest iteration of the Philippines-U.K. Joint Defense Committee Meeting held this month in Makati City.
In a recorded message, LtGen Ferdinand M Cartujano PAF(Ret), President of the NDCP, emphasized that collaboration is essential as countries approach current and emerging threats in the region. He explained that the Philippines’ efforts to secure its maritime domain will not be adequate without the assistance from its partners in Southeast Asia and across the globe.
“By sharing knowledge, strategies, and resources, we are establishing a powerful relation that is capable of not only facing hostile powers but also facilitating cooperation for the development of our country,” LtGen Cartujano added.
